Alabama Community Healthy Marriage
Initiative

Healthy
Marriages Matter for Alabama!
The
Alabama Children’s Trust Fund is a proud
partner in coordinating the Alabama
Community Healthy Marriage Initiative
(ACHMI), along with Auburn University’s
Department of Human Development and Family
Studies. ACHMI is funded by a 5-year grant
from the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services Office of Family Assistance.
Primary community partners are Family
Resource Centers throughout Alabama. For
many years, relationship/marriage education
has been the “missing link” in prevention
and family life education programs. ACHMI
is focused on changing that in our State.
ACHMI’s goal is to
strengthen Alabama families by:
·
Raising public awareness about
the importance of healthy marriages for the
well-being of children, families and
communities.
·
Increasing access to healthy
marriage resources for all Alabama citizens
– married, non married, and youth.
·
Training community members and
professionals to offer research-based
educational programs that strengthen
relationships and marriages.
There is mounting
research evidence that the trends of
increasing marital and family instability
have a negative impact on children, adults,
families, and their communities. The
research is clear: healthy relationships and
marriages, and resulting family stability,
benefit the physical, social, and emotional
well-being of adults and children.
